Fertility and Birth Rates

This week in our Family Relations class we've talked about a lot of interesting things. One thing that stuck out to me was our discussion on fertility and birth rates. I was shocked at the average number of children being born to a woman. I can't remember the specific number but it was around 2.3 i think. That is shocking. We talked about how the population is going to go way down because of this. People are going to be living longer because of advances in medicine so there will be lots of older people and not enough younger people to take care of them. My generation is going to have to pay higher taxes for medicare and social security. I hope this is not the case but if people are focusing more on their own careers and themselves then this will happen.
